Dry Ice Blasting

Dry Ice Blasting is a process where rice-sized high density dry ice (solid CO2) pellets are accelerated through a pressurized air stream to effectively clean, strip, or prepare nearly any surface. Dry ice pellets are kept at -109 degrees Fahrenheit and when blasted against material to be removed such as dirt, grease, oil, food, ink, glue, weld spatter, production residue, and other contaminants, the cold temperature of the dry ice causes the contaminants to shrink and loosen from the surface. Once the pellets contact the underlying surface, sublimation takes place where CO2 instantly changes from a solid to a gas; this creates mini explosions which causes the contaminants to release from the surface.

Dry Ice Blasting is a nonabrasive, nonflammable, nonconductive process which leaves behind no secondary waste, (CO2 evaporates) only the removed material needs to be disposed of. Most equipment and machinery can be cleaned in place without any disassembly, drying time, or cooling, thus reducing maintenance downtime.

Dry Ice Blasting meets EPA, FDA, and USDA guidelines and is truly a green way to clean. Click here for our brochure.

Benefits of Dry Ice Blasting

  • Environmentally Friendly
Kodiac Dry Iceblasting inc. uses high density dry ice pellets from recycled carbon dioxide. No hazardous waste is produced during the cleaning process; the CO2 simply sublimates (changes from a solid to a gas) and evaporates into the atmosphere.
  • Non Abrasive
Unlike sand blasting and other aggressive cleaning methods which can alter the structure of a surface, dry ice blasting is nonabrasive and does not alter the surface structure.
  • Non Conductive
Unlike solvents, water, and steam, dry ice (CO2) is not electrically conductive. This makes it an ideal media for cleaning electrical equipment such as transformers, sub stations, switch gear, generators, motors, circuit breakers, and more.
  • Non Toxic
Dry Ice Blasting uses no solvents or harmful chemicals. Dry ice pellets are nontoxic and nonhazardous. The process is safe for your workers, the environment, your equipment and your end product.
  • Nonflammable
    Carbon dioxide cannot catch fire.
  • Generates No Secondary Waste
Dry Ice Blasting generates no secondary waste. The solid CO2 pellets sublimates upon contact, so the only waste generated is the contaminate itself. This reduces waste disposal costs.
  • Most Equipment Can Be Cleaned In Place
This eliminates disassembly & reassembly and moving of equipment to and from an assigned area for cleaning. This can help reduce downtime associated with cleaning your equipment from days to hours.
  • No Cool Down or Drying Time Required
Most equipment (i.e. aluminum molds) can be cleaned Hot for best results. No drying time required.
  • Kills Bacteria, Mold, Mildew, and Fungi
Dry Ice Blasting pellets are kept at -109 degrees Fahrenheit and eliminate bacteria, mold, mildew, and fungi upon contact.
  • Meets EPA, FDA, and USDA Guidelines
Dry Ice Blasting is EPA, FDA, and USDA approved.
  • Provides a More Efficient and Superior Clean
Dry Ice Blasting will not only reduce cleaning time when compared to using hand methods like abrasive scrubbing pads or wire brushes, but will produce a superior clean by penetrating areas that can’t be reached by hand.

Dry Ice Blasting Comparison

Dry Ice Blasting is an environmentally friendly, efficient, superior method for commercial, industrial, and restoration cleaning.  There are many unique advantages of dry ice blasting over other traditional cleaning methods such as solvents, steam, water-based, sand blasting, and other abrasive cleaning solutions. Unlike many traditional cleaning methods, dry ice blasting does not leave behind any secondary waste, toxic chemicals and is not electrically conductive.
